My name is Kyle Burton, and I'm running for City Council. My wife and I have lived in the Brookhaven Neighborhood since 2016, and we absolutely love it. When I grew up in the 80s and 90s we rode our bikes all over our neighborhoods, and I feel this generation of kids largely miss out on that. We chose this place to raise our two kids (Elena 8, and Ethan 5) because we wanted to give them a similar experience. Over the last eight years we've grown deep roots in this community and are fully invested in its future growth.
I was born in McAllen, TX, but later moved to Waco, where I went to both high school and college. After graduating from Baylor in 2005 I spent the following decade in the finance industry, where as a commercial lender I became fluent in how different businesses work, and more importantly why some fail. A substantial part of my lending portfolio was in the construction/land development space. I loved knowing that the loans I made would fund hotels, neighborhoods and buildings that would outlive me.
I have had many jobs in my life but being a father is my favorite by far. My wife Abby and I are both very active parents, and want to make sure that they have every opportunity in life. You might have met my daughter Elena selling Girl Scout cookies or have seen me and Ethan riding around on an electric scooter. The reason I want to run for City Council is simple... I love this place and I want to do my part to make it even better.
